Emily Ballenger Holland is the president and owner of H3 Marketing. Born and raised in Anderson, she swam competitively at the University of Texas in Austin before breaking into the hospitality marketing industry in Charleston. She returned to Anderson in 2010, joining a woman-owned firm and later acquiring the agency in 2015. Rebranded to H3 Marketing in 2022, the company continues to grow through embodying Holland's commitment to community involvement and giving back.
What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
Being a vulnerable leader. I learned about business ownership from my father, as well as the visionary women who began the company we now know as H3 Marketing. I saw there is strength in vulnerability and flexibility, as well as setting aside your own pride to get down and dirty in the day-to-day grind! I believe it is a great accomplishment to pass this perspective on to new generations: my kids and my staff.
What one thing have you learned that has served you well over the years?
Set (nearly) unattainable goals but know there are no shortcuts to reach them. It’s amazing what you can do when trying to reach a goal you thought was impossible. You'll find you need to outwork and outthink (or as we say at H3 Marketing, use your head, heart, and hustle!) your peers and competitors. Ditch the pursuit of perfectionism and just give it a shot, then learn from feedback and results.
