Evan Danyo, owner of Greenville-based trade business Garage Door Today Greenville didn't set out to become a garage door entrepreneur by accident. He was set on owning a business since childhood.
"I had that entrepreneurial mindset all throughout my childhood," he shared. After graduating from Furman University with a business administration degree and data analytics degree, he looked for a pathway where knowledge already existed, and momentum could be manufactured faster than ground zero.
Danyo partnered with his uncle, who already owned a major garage door operation in Charlotte with additional locations across the region. Danyo saw Greenville as a growing market where demand was visible in real time. In August 2025, the Greenville location officially launched, and nearly a year into the business, it runs with a tight-knit team: two employees, strong customer pull, and a plan for scaling the business.
Garage Doors Today Greenville provides residential garage door services throughout the Upstate and surrounding areas. The company handles new garage door installations, broken spring replacements, off-track garage doors, garage door opener installations and repairs, preventative maintenance and tune-ups, and general garage door service and repairs. The company works with homeowners as well as builders, property managers, and other local businesses throughout the area.
Danyo's biggest lesson so far has been time management. "If you have your systems and processes down, it correlates to excellence," he shared. Local knowledge can be a competitive advantage, so he intentionally staffed his team with someone who understands the area deeply — someone who knows the routes, the neighborhoods, and the networks that form around long-standing builders and homeowners.
His biggest hurdle is not inventory, margins, or forecasting. It's perception. As a younger entrepreneur who has been operating for about a year, he says some of his customers and builders test his credibility on arrival. "People associate age with knowledge," he explained, witnessing hesitation especially from builders who are skeptical about partnering with someone who is still proving himself. Danyo is quick to clarify that he has answers, but emphasizes the importance of trust in service relationships. "We already have 300 five-star reviews," noting that the number reflects more than performances. It signals consistency in an industry where the customer experience can't be improvised.
Danyo's education background seeps through in how he handles daily operations. He encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to "learn their cost structure, measuring what advertising methods work, and to avoid wasting resources in the early stages." Danyo puts it bluntly: "It takes a lot of time now, but it's important early on in the business to know your numbers."
In a trade business, entrepreneurs often get defined by what they fix. Danyo is trying to be defined by what he builds.
In Greenville, where the demand is rising and all competitors aren't all adapting, his focus could be what turns a young entrepreneur into a longstanding brand.
