Mark Hammond was elected to the post of South Carolina secretary of state in 2002, and he has won re-election five times since then. Prior to his election, Hammond worked as a criminal investigator assisting prosecutors for the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, and from 1997 to 2002, he worked as clerk of court for Spartanburg County. His accomplishments as secretary of state include initiating reforms targeting charity and telemarketing abuses and launching Give Smart SC, a free app that allows donors to look up charities registered to solicit in South Carolina. Hammond is an ex-officio member of the South Carolina Consumer Affairs Commission and Legislative Council and serves on the Newberry College board of trustees.
