Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) President Marilyn “Murph” Fore, Ph.D., has announced her retirement after 51 years of service to the college, effective July 31, 2026.
Fore has served as president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College since 2017, leading the institution through a period of sustained growth, expanded academic offerings, and strengthened partnerships across Horry and Georgetown counties. Her career at the college began as a faculty member, and over more than five decades, she has played a significant role in shaping the institution’s mission and impact.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve this institution,” said Fore. “I am deeply grateful to the Area Commission, faculty, and staff whose dedication and commitment have made this college such a strong impact on our communities. Together, we have achieved meaningful milestones and made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of students.”
Under Fore’s leadership, the college has experienced significant enrollment growth, expanded workforce development initiatives, and strengthened transfer partnerships to support student success and regional economic development.
The Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission will form a search committee to begin the process of identifying the college’s next president.
“For more than five decades, Dr. Fore has demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to the mission of Horry-Georgetown Technical College,” said Tommy Branyon, chair of the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Area Commission. “Her impact on this institution and the communities it serves will be felt for generations.”
