Carl P. Borick, director of The Charleston Museum, delivered the keynote address at the annual meeting of the South Carolina Historical Association, held at the Madren Conference Center in Clemson, South Carolina on March 14th.

This year’s conference theme, “Seeking Liberty: Marking the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution,” brought together scholars and historians from across the region to explore South Carolina’s role in the fight for independence.

Borick, a noted historian of the Revolutionary War era, discussed the importance of South Carolina’s militia and backcountry resistance during the struggle for American independence. His remarks also highlighted research from his fourth book, Backcountry Resistance: South Carolina's Militia and the Fight for American Independence.

The annual meeting included scholarly panels, an undergraduate research poster session, and opportunities for historians and students to engage with new research on South Carolina history.
