H. Alexander Rich, Ph.D. is president and CEO of Charleston's Gibbes Museum of Art. Taking the helm of the Gibbes in summer 2025, Rich oversees the nearly 170-year-old organization’s overall management, from its exhibitions and daily operation to its educational programs and artistic and future visions. A native New Yorker, Rich served previously as executive director and chief curator of the Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art, while also chairing the Department of Art History and Museum Studies at Florida Southern College, where he was also a tenured professor of art history. His background includes experience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Brooklyn Museum.
