Greenville County Council has agreed to take up a proposal for a $282 million renovation of Bon Secours Wellness Arena that would add square footage and an amphitheater to the campus in downtown Greenville.
At its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, the council heard the proposal from BSW Arena General Manager Beth Paul that includes a request for $40 million in general obligation bonds to fund a portion of the cost. Other revenue sources will be used to pay for the renovations.
County Council scheduled a public hearing on Feb. 17 to discuss the ordinance approving the bonds.
The proposal wouldn’t necessitate a property tax increase for Greenville County residents, Paul said in an interview prior to the council meeting.
The renovations would include an amphitheater that could seat up to 7,000 people, along with the addition of a 10,000-square-foot lobby to the arena, an increase in overall square footage, additional restroom space, more locker rooms and parking spaces, and a new exterior entrance.
