Dr. Ellen Paulisick earned her DDS from the University of Maryland in 2011 and completed her chief residency at the Baltimore VAMC. She is an AGD Fellow, a Benco Dental 40 Under 40 Best Dentist, and an International College of Dentists inductee. She serves as a Key Opinion Leader for Glidewell Dental Lab and tests products for Catapult Education, alongside leading her practice, Longboard Dental.

How do you define leadership?

Leadership is what you do when no one is watching. It is creating an environment people want to grow and develop into.

What makes you an effective leader?

Empathy is vital in dentistry: learning our experiences are unique and having the compassion to understand each person's own life path and experience.

Is there a mentor who has meant a lot to you in your career?

Believe it or not, my first swim coach was one of my first mentors. From an early age he taught me the grit of competition but also the grace when things don't go your way.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers?

Find what you love to do and you won't work a day in your life.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?

Honestly, keeping a healthy and happy team and work environment. Its a privilege when your team wants to work hard for you and your vision

What one thing have you learned that has served you well over the years?

Know how to embrace your own errors to grow and improve.

If there is one thing you could go back and do differently what would it be?

Spend less time worrying about the small stuff and value your family above all else!
